About Us

DailyEnoch exists for one reason: the Ethiopian canon is one of the oldest and widest in Christianity, and almost nobody in the English-speaking world has ever been able to sit down and actually hear it.

The problem we set out to fix

The editions on the market are hard to use. The print is small enough that readers describe it as microscopic. The translations are dense. Most people give up somewhere in the first few chapters — not because they lost interest, but because the format defeated them.

We thought that was a solvable problem.

What we made

Every text is read aloud by a human narrator, at an unhurried pace, in plain modern English. Each reading is followed by a short explanation of what you just heard, so nothing is left as a wall of unfamiliar names.

It comes with a large-print eBook you can set to any size you like, so you can read along or read instead — whichever suits you that day.

Seven minutes a day is enough to make real progress.

How we handle the sources

We work from English translations that are in the public domain, and we compile, arrange and annotate them ourselves. Our editions are not direct word-for-word translations from the original Ge'ez manuscripts, and we say so plainly rather than implying otherwise.

We name every book we include. We do not announce a total and leave you to guess what is inside.

What we are not

We are an independent publisher. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorised by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church or any other religious body.

We do not tell you these books were banned or suppressed at a council — that is a popular story and it is not what the record shows. The real history is quieter and, we think, more interesting: one church kept a wider canon, continuously, for centuries, while others settled on a shorter list.

Questions of inspiration and doctrine belong to you and to your own tradition, not to us.
